Hi everyone!

It’s early September so it’s that time of the year when… our kids go to school, yes! And another important date is registration for programs in Toronto community centres.

As you’ve seen in one of our previous videos, Toronto has over a 100 of community centres with low-cost or free programs for everybody, from children to adults to seniors.
These programs are very popular, so when opens, you need to be fast. We still have a few days left, so you have time to find a program for your family and be ready to register for it in the first few minutes or hours of the registration day.

Before you start this search, you need to know:
1. Which community centres are close to your neighbourhood, remember their names. If you have not done it yet and need help, you can watch our video on Finding a Community Centre.

2. You also need to know which district your community centre belongs to. The city is divided into four -s. You may already know – North York, Toronto, Etobicoke, and Scarborough.

3. You also need to get a family account number from the city of Toronto. You only need to do it once and then you can re-use it every time you yourself or a family member. Each family member will get their own client number as well.
4. Finally, you would need to have a general idea of what program you or your family members may be interested in.

To begin, I open a browser and I google something like how to register (for a) Toronto community center program.
As you can see, the first result for me is about setting up an account because without it you will not be able to the registration. You have four options to do this – you can do it online, you can call, you can do it via email or via fax. Let’s open this link.

So, the most important piece of information here is the registration date. As you can see, there are different dates for each district and you should really know your district and put the date into your calendar with -s a few days in advance.

As I mentioned, popular classes fill up very fast, within minutes, so you need to be ready to complete registration quickly at 7 am on this day. You may have to wait in line for some time. So you need to have your 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice ready, because chances are high that your first choice of program will be full by the time your comes.
If you are not sure what district your community centre is in, you can try using this button, and you can either scroll down the very long list, or hopefully, again, after watching the previous video, you know the name of your community center.
For example, in that video we were talking about Glen Long Community Centre. So you start typing and it shows up. It’s in the North York district. Hmm, I was almost sure it was in Etobicoke. It’s still in North York, so the registration day for that community centre would be September 13.

The same registration will be open again in December for winter recreation programs or March Break camps. Later, in early March, many families will go through this process again to register for Spring and Summer programs, so early September & early March are the registration times twice a year for most [parents].
